Diigo: A Social Bookmarking Tool

This assignment has two parts:
a) making a list of teacher resource websites using a social bookmarking tool, and
b) evaluating 3 educational websites using a form.

Create an Account
1) Go to http://www.diigo.com
2) Sign up for a free account.
3) Check your e-mail and confirm by clicking the link.
4) Close your e-mail and go to http://www.diigo.com
5) Log in.

Bookmark Websites
Open two tabs. In one tab, go to Diigo and your "My Bookmarks" page. In the other tab go to the website you want to bookmark. Copy the URL from the page you want to bookmark and paste it into the window that says add a bookmark.

When you visit a website that you want to bookmark- click Bookmark. Type a description and add tags (labels) for the site.

Expand your Network
Search People: Go to Meet People in the menu. Select Search People. Type in first and last name or e-mail address. Good ones: Clif Mims, Isabelle Jones, Barbara Moose, Miguel Guhlin, Russel Montgomery.Drew Polly,

Joining Groups
Find someone with a lot of groups (e.g., Clif Mims, Drew Polly). Check out their groups and see if you want to join.
Groups worth joining:
Clif's Notes for Future Teachers, Clif's Notes for EdTech, Google in Education, Teaching and Learning with Web 2.0, Virtual Mathematics Manipulatives, Web 2.0 tools for teachers.

2) How does Diigo compare to using the Favorites tab on your own computer?
3) What are the drawbacks of this tool?
4) In what ways do you see you using the Internet while you teach. Give 3 examples. (3)
