President's Letter
September 23, 2010
As I begin this venture as the Mu Tau Beta 2010-2011 President, I am reminded of the inspirational words of Margaret Meade, “Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” I believe Mu Tau Beta is one of those groups of committed individuals, and am excited and honored to be serving as President for this year.
A cornerstone of Chi Sigma Iota International is that it is a service-oriented organization. A major goal for this year is to see an increase of student members becoming involved by volunteering their time in the communities we reside. To reach this goal we are in the beginning stages of planning a service-a-thon fundraiser. This would involve students gathering sponsors for volunteering their time at organizations within our community. These individuals would then be eligible to help receive funding for the American Counseling Association National Convention. The goals of this project are to increase the service aspect of Mu Tau Beta and to make this a yearly fundraiser, which would help our students and school increase representation at the national level.
On the local level here at UNC Charlotte, the Mu Tau Beta board is planning a fun and exciting year! We will continue to have socials as a time for us to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Also, we will be engaging in fundraisers that not only benefit our organization but also contribute to our community. In October we will be hosting the first Silent Auction at the Bob Barrett Conference on Multiculturalism. Half of the proceeds raised from the event will be donated to Time Out Youth, an organization in Charlotte, which provides services for youth that identify as LGBTQ. Supporting organizations that have positive impacts in the lives of our citizens is incredibly important and being fully embraced this year.
Mu Tau Beta will also continue to bring workshops to the department. The workshop topics will vary but will focus on issues relevant to you as a developing counselor and your professional career. The board would like to hear feedback on these workshops, and suggestions for future possibilities.
As your President, I’d like to invite individuals to provide feedback about what Mu Tau Beta is doing well, and how we can serve you better in the future. Please feel free to contact me about anything that you are thinking! In my opinion, the more involvement of individuals, the better, so come one, come all.
I’d like to see Mu Tau Beta become that “small group of committed individuals” even more so than it already is. You have an opportunity to be a part of that group and I’d like to see all members take full advantage of what opportunities lay ahead of them. Let’s go out and make this a great year!
Sincerely,
Regina R. Moro
