Established in 1974, the membership of NCARE includes teachers, principals, school system administrators, university faculty and staff, graduate students, staff of the Department of Public Instruction, members of the local educational agencies, and people working in private research organizations.
The activities of NCARE are implemented through its elected officers and Board of Directors. The Officers include the President, President-Elect, the Immediate Past-President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer. The Board of Directors has six members: a representative of institutions of higher education in North Carolina, a representative of local education agencies, a representative of the Department of Public Instruction, and three at-large members.
