The 2008 summer institute will be centered in Maastricht, the Netherlands.  Maastricht is the oldest city in the Netherlands, and one of the oldest in Europe; it was built by the Romans in approximately 150 A.D.  Maastricht is where the Common Market Treaty was signed.  It is situated close to the borders of Belgium, Germany, France, and Luxembourg; ideally located near Amsterdam, Cologne, Aachen, and the city of Luxembourg.

While the Institute will be housed in Maastricht, it also will spend two days in Amsterdam and include a visit to the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum (home of many famous Rembrandt paintings), or the Van Gogh Museum, a guided tour through the old city, and a boat ride through the canals.  Participants can also visit the Heineken Museum (or others, there are 37 official museums in Amsterdam) and shop in one of Europe's most interesting capital cities.  The Institute will also travel to the eastern part of the Netherlands.  In Belgium we will visit Brussels, Ghent or Antwerp, Bruges (a wonderfully preserved medieval city), and Leuven.  The Institute will also travel to Aachen in Germany.  There will be two free days for participants to explore nearby European cities.

PLEASE NOTE:

THE SUMMER OF 2008 WILL BE THE LAST OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SUMMER INSTITUTE
